Tockly support

Tockly - A quiet focus timer. Currently in TestFlight beta.

What Tockly is

Tockly is a focus timer for iPhone with a companion app for Apple Watch. One tap starts a countdown. The default session is 25 minutes, and you can set your own duration instead.

It keeps accurate time when your phone is locked, when the app is in the background, when the app is force-quit, and across a restart. The running countdown appears on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island as a Live Activity. When a session ends there is a chime and a haptic, and both can be turned off.

It shows quiet daily and weekly focus totals. There are no streaks and no reminders to come back. There are no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no account and no login. I built Tockly because every other timer I tried wanted more from me than I wanted from it.

Requirements

Tockly needs iOS 18 or later. The Apple Watch app needs watchOS 11 or later. Tockly is published by Si Cruse Consulting Ltd.

Getting support

Email me at si@sicruse.com. I read every message. Put "Tockly" in the subject line so it reaches the right place.

It helps if you tell me your iPhone and watch models, the iOS and watchOS versions you are on, and what you were doing when the problem happened. There is one person answering, so replies are not instant, but you will get one.

Privacy

Tockly makes no network requests at all. It collects no data about you. There are no analytics, no telemetry and no third-party SDKs in the app.

Everything Tockly records, including your session history and your totals, is stored only on your own devices. Nothing is sent anywhere, so there is nothing held on a server for me to look at, export or delete. If you delete the app, that data goes with it.

Common questions

What happens if I force-quit the app during a session?

The session carries on. Tockly works out the remaining time from the clock rather than from a timer that has to stay running, so force-quitting the app, locking the phone or restarting the device does not lose your session or change when it ends.

The iPhone and the Watch are showing different times left.

Both apps count down against the same session, so a difference is normally the two devices having briefly lost contact. Bring the watch and the phone close together, make sure Bluetooth is on and both devices are unlocked, and give it a few seconds to catch up. If it does not settle, open Tockly on both devices, then close and reopen the Watch app. If it still disagrees, email me and tell me which device was showing the shorter time.

How do I turn off the chime or the haptic?

Both are in the app's settings, and each can be turned off on its own. One thing worth knowing, because it looks like a bug and is not: while Tockly is open, the chime and the haptic are genuinely independent. When a session finishes with the app closed or suspended, the alert is delivered by a notification instead, and iOS gives an app no way to ask for a notification haptic without the notification's sound. So with the chime off, a session that completes in the background is silent and you will not feel the tap either. On the Apple Watch the haptic setting still governs the wrist tap on its own. Either way the session is still recorded correctly and your totals are unaffected.

The countdown is not showing on my lock screen.

That display is a Live Activity, so it needs Live Activities to be allowed for Tockly in the iOS Settings app, under the entry for Tockly. A Focus mode or Low Power Mode can also hold it back. The session itself is unaffected either way, and the timer keeps correct time even when nothing is shown.

Can I change the 25 minute default?

Yes. Set the duration you want before you start a session. Twenty-five minutes is only the starting point.

Where did my totals go?

Your totals live on the device and are not synced to any server, because Tockly does not talk to one. Deleting the app removes them. Moving to a new phone will not carry them over unless they are included in a device backup you restore from.

How do I send feedback from the beta?

In the TestFlight app, open Tockly and use "Send Beta Feedback". You can also take a screenshot while using Tockly and share it to TestFlight from there. Feedback sent that way reaches me with the device and version details attached, which is usually the fastest way to get something fixed. Email works too, at si@sicruse.com.

Reporting a problem

Tockly is in beta, so some things will be wrong. If you find one, I would rather hear about it than not. A short description of what you expected and what happened instead is enough to start with.
